What Customers Say About Philips MCM309R Flat Micro Shelf System:

When you see a powered, tuned-port sub-woofer on a stereo, you kind of expect at least a little bass. It has about.0001 watt of power I think. The speaker cables are some strange proprietary system that doesn't even allow you to hook up a 3rd party sub-woofer if you had one (like I was hoping to do after hearing this one).Very much too bad also, because this could have been a really nice product for the footprint it has and the decent price. The pictures of this product look nice. I was absolutely, 100% disappointed though. Too bad the product isn't. In fact, the design IS nice. The subwoofer might-as-well not even be attached.

You may want to cut the cable a bit so that you can separate the jacks on the input side. So, place any iPod on the dock and make sure the mini USB cable is connecting the dock to the subwoofer. Then, connect the aux mini jack from your chosen source (MP3 player, computer, etc) to the rear of the subwoofer, instead of from the dock. The audio from this system isn't too bad if you aren't trying to fill a huge room or create a dance party. Now, you can play any aux input, not just an iPod.Although this is inconvenient, it saves the system from being useless for aux input. This works alright for an iPod, but doesn't help with other MP3 players or a computer where you want to use a mini-jack line/aux input. However, the system has one critical flaw related to its inputs. You can buy a separate iPod dock to use your iPod as an input. If you simply connect the line out on a computer to the line in to the subwoofer and select 'Dock' on the system, you get no sound. Here's the secret -- you need to have an iPod on the dock and the mini USB cable connected in order to send the correct signal to the system to play sound.

No one in my opinion will be disappointed in the purchase of this unit. I think this stereo system is an excellent purchase, though no system is perfect there is no disappointment in purchasing this to here the music you love. I am not upset with the trivial things missing as some have commented on and the volume is sufficient for me, any louder and I would go deaf.

i.e not loud enough for my liking I do however have a problem with the amount of power in the system. I love the look. i however had a problem trying to find the ipod dock, until i finally called the philips company and the directed me to order the replacement parts for them.

Was told that the system sounds good, but the functioning is not as versitile as others. For the price though is it not bad Purchased this as a gift.
